Use Case

Use Geofencing to Power Location-Based Messaging

Enhance Customer Engagement with Location-Based Marketing

Location-based marketing enhances customer engagement effectiveness by delivering timely and relevant messages to users based on their geographic location. This approach leverages various technologies, such as GPS, geofencing, and beacon technology, to provide personalized marketing messages based on where a customer is located.

Use geofences to send relevant messages to users based on when they arrive or depart a specific geographic location.

The Braze platform’s Geofences make it easy to reach your customers with triggered messages when they enter or leave predetermined locations. Geofences are virtual boundaries defined around a specific geographic area using GPS, RFID, Wi-Fi, or cellular data.

For example, a bike share app may send push notifications to customers when they are within a certain distance to a bike rental station. Creating a location-based campaign using a geofence enables brands to deliver targeted, real-time messages to users based on their physical location, enhancing engagement, driving foot traffic, and improving conversion rates through personalized experiences.

Industry Examples

Location-based marketing can be used in many different industries including:

  • Transport and Micro-Mobility: Send real-time promotions, optimize ride experiences, and provide personalized recommendations based on users' geographic locations.
  • Retail: Send promotions, discounts, and notifications to customers when they are near or inside your stores. This can drive foot traffic and increase sales.
  • Hospitality and Travel: Offer special deals, local attractions, or dining recommendations to travelers based on their current location.
  • Food and Beverage: Send location-based offers, such as happy hour specials or loyalty rewards, to entice customers who are nearby.
  • Real Estate: Provide potential buyers with information about properties for sale in their current area, including virtual tours or open house notifications.

Use Case: Use Geofencing to Power Location-Based Messaging

In the following use case, learn how a bike share app leverages geofences and Canvas to message their loyal users about a newly added rental station in their neighborhood that has access to exclusive e-bike rentals.

Use cross-channel messaging to promote the new product launch and offer customers an exclusive discount to rent a bike when they are in close proximity to the new station.

A bike share app uses a Canvas, where entry is triggered by a geofence to send location-based messages.

To use geofencing, it must be enabled in your Braze SDK. Learn more about enabling location collection on your app in the Braze developer documentation or for access to Geofences, contact your Braze customer success manager.
